The International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) consists of Member Boards representing countries or regions around the world.
Next to the Foundation Level Certification, ISTQB has an Advanced Level Certification divided over three modules:
- Advanced Level Test Manager
- Advanced Level Test Analyst
- Advanced Level Technical Test Analyst
In order to contribute to the objective of gaining recognition for testing as an essential and professional software engineering specialization, we proved to ISTQB our ability to teach the appropriate syllabus material, using competent staff, good materials and an appropriate training environment in view of the ISTQB Advanced Level Test Manager Certificate in Software Testing based on the ISTQB syllabus.
As Accredited Training Provider, ps_testware offers a five day course leading to the certificate, awarded by ISTQB to those who pass the exam.
Intended audience
People who have advanced in their software testing career and want to certify on a
higher level. This includes test managers, test analysts, test engineers, but also
project managers, quality managers and development managers.
Candidates must hold the ISEB/ISTQB Foundation Certificate.
Course outline

Day 1
- Basic aspects of testing: life cycle models, specific systems and metrics & measurement;
- Testing processes: test planning & control, test implementation & execution, evaluating exit criteria & reporting, test closure activities;
- People skills: individual skills;
- Test documentation: test policy, test strategy, test plan.
Day 2
- Risk based testing: introduction;
- FMEA: Failure Mode and Effects Analysis;
- Business value of testing;
- Test estimation and test scheduling.
Day 3
- Risk management;
- Incident management;
- People skills: test team dynamics, communication;
- Test management & control.
Day 4
- Test management issues;
- Distributed, outsourced and insourced testing;
- Test improvement: CMMi, TMM, TPI, CTP, STEP;
- People skills: motivation, fitting testing within the organization;
- Reviews.
Day 5
- Standards;
- Test tools & automation;
- Risk management in the life cycle.
Specifics
- Participants should be informed that a minimum of 8 hours self study will be needed between sessions.
- The certification exam will be scheduled approximately 2 weeks after the 5th day of the course.
On completion participants will
- Be able to define overall test goals and strategy for systems being tested;
- Know how to plan, schedule and track tasks;
- Know how to describe and organize the necessary activities;
- Be able to select, acquire and assign adequate resources to tasks;
- Know how to select, organize and lead test teams;
- Better organize the communication within test teams, and between test teams and other stakeholders;
- More efficiently justify decisions and provide adequate reporting information where applicable.
